Business News - breaking news from the mass spectrometry business sector

Advion BioSciences, based in Ithaca New York, and ThermoElectron Corporation have launched a fully automated chip-based nanoelectrospray MS system.

Bruker Daltonics Inc. introduces Compass(TM), a unified software environment for all mass spectrometric instrument control and data processing, as well as chemical and bioinformatics analysis software. Compass is designed to offer a unified look and feel across all Bruker mass spectrometers.

Amersham Biosciences and Thermo Electron Corporation have announced they will jointly market and sell AB's Ettan MALDI-TOF Pro and ThermoFinnigan line of ion trap mass spectrometers , including the ProteomeX integrated proteomics workstation.

Applied Biosystems Group have announced that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld a judgment of the U.S. Court for the District of Delaware ruling in favor of Applied Biosystems patent infringement lawsuit against Micromass U.K. Ltd. and its U.S. subsidiary, Micromass, Inc., both divisions of Waters Corporation. Micromass was found to infringe a US patent covering technology for triple quadrupole mass spectrometers.

Agilent Technologies Inc. have announced it expects results for the first fiscal quarter of 2003 to be below the expectations with revenues in the range of $1.35-1.45 billion. Agilent CEO Ned Barnholt said, "We are seeing a collective hesitation by many of our customers, who are deferring big ticket capital expenditures.

Bruker Daltonics have released the Esquire HCT quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer. The Esquire HCT features an UltraScan(TM) mode with a scan rate of 26,000 Dalton/second analysis with unit mass resolution. An extended mass range scan can achieve a maximum m/z of 6,000.
