atomic weight

The atomic weight of an element is the weighted average of the isotope masses. For example, 98.89% of all carbon atoms are in the form of carbon-12 and almost all of the remainder are carbon-13. The atomic weight of carbon is then calculated to be 0.9889 x 12.00000 + 0.0111 x 13.003354 = 12.01.
